Losing weight is a lifelong game, and that is why it doesn’t matter whether you win or lose. What really matters is for how long you stay in the game.

In 2018, I had some insane working hours and gained weight at the speed of light. Close to 15 kgs within 4–6 months. Sounds insane right? Well, it not only sounds but also looks insane! You can see it for yourself below!

But in October 2019, everything changed. I took a trip to Dharmkot(A story for another day) where I could barely walk up the hill for more than 10 mins without panting or taking a break. While the trip was a lot of fun, it was an eye opener, a much needed reality check.

I got back, enrolled for tennis and dance classes. Which went on for about 5 months during which I lost 4-5 kgs. You know they say it’s 80% diet and 20% workout? I never believed it until I experienced it myself.

Due to coronavirus, the activities stopped and that’s when my friend and I decided to make few lifestyle changes:

  • No sugar and no fried food
  • Cut down the carbs intake to one meal a day
  • Intermittent fasting
  • Limited alcohol intake to twice a month- 2–4 small glass of either gin or wine(lowest calories)
  • Daily workout routine

We made it fun by adding penalities and monetary fines to keep it tough, interesting and real.

A snippet of how we changed our lifestyle

Results:

Before & After 3 months
  1. Lost 10 kgs in 3 months!
  2. Appetite reduced phenominally
  3. Developed healthy and mindful eating habits
  4. Became a better cook
  5. Got better skin
  6. Got better at burpees! (I still hate it though)
  7. Got more active, fit and productive!

With just those above mentioned basic lifestyle changes, I lost weight during quarantine, for good. I have tried alot of diets in the past, but nothing that lasted for long. And I would gain all the weight soon after the diet stopped. But this is a long one. In fact stopped working out due to other commitments for 4 months and my weight remained constant inspite of me taking a lot more cheat days. I ate whatever I wanted!

On alot of days you will feel lazy, laid back, and demotivated. I felt it too. But remember that only you control you, and the only one stopping you, is you. Every time you feel like you dont want to do it, or you cant do, it is your mind winning against you. Don’t let it.

I made changes to my routine to reduce another 10 kgs and if you want a list of the workout routine I follow, healthy food options and recipes to lose weight, ping me on vidushimehta@gmail.com or fill this form and you shall get a copy of it soon!
